Franson GPS Gate

Garmin, using the infinite wisdom that can only be found in Corporate Fucking America, decided to make their Vista C (which I picked up on sale at REI) proprietary. The data format is no longer NMEA (an industry standard). They switched to USB – which no other mapping software uses. Basically – they went to Chinese acrobat school and learned how to stick their head up their ass. More elegant ranting can be found on O’Reilly Net.

Thankfully Franson wrote a cool util called GPS Gate which solves this. If you’re stuck in useless Garmin land then this product will allow you to use your GPS with Streets and Trips, Topo USA, etc.
