A very good Asian Vinaigrette

While down in LA last week I went to Axe in Venice Beach with Kwin and Nina which had some really amazing, simple food. Their “enough for two” 9 Grain Pancake isn’t to be missed. I had their Rice Bowl which was amazingly good, yet simple.

While I didn’t have limes this morning, this vinaigrette is pretty close to the one I had there… would be better with a lime (next time):

  • 2 tbl minced shallot
  • 1 tbl ginger (put through a rasp)
  • 1 tbl honey
  • 3 tbl rice vinegar
  • 1 tbl mirin
  • 1 tbl sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup light oil (like canola)

Some interesting variations on this would be to add syrup from canned fruit (like pears) if you have that kicking around. And, again, a lime would help.

I’ll post the rice bowl recipe I use later today.
